Dr. Spelios is co-founder of Dental Health Associates, Inc, and had served as its Chief Executive Officer from January 2002 through January 2010 when he became Board Chairman. Dr. Spelios is experienced in all clinical and practice management areas of the dental services industry, and possesses more than 16 years of experience in private practice and multiple group practice development. During his ten years of private practice in the Miami area, he opened and operated a large multi-specialty practice.
In 1996, he developed three Beta site dental facilities in North Carolina which later served as the nucleus for Dental Health Management, Inc. a subsidiary and joint venture company formed by CompBenefits Corporation of Atlanta.
In his role of Senior Vice President and Chief Dental Officer for Dental Health Management, Inc., Dr. Spelios was instrumental in the design of operating systems, including production of training and clinical manuals, recruiting and hiring staff dentists, office site selections, negotiating acquisitions, and raising capital for company expansion, ultimately resulting in the company’s growth to over 58 dental facilities in eight states.
In 1999, Dr. Spelios entered into a joint venture with BriteSmile, Inc. Dr. Spelios, through Spelios Dental Associates, P.A. operated four professional teeth whitening centers in Florida and Georgia and aided in the start up of 160 associated teeth whitening centers. While serving as President of Spelios Dental Associates, P.A. he was a spokesperson for BriteSmile, Inc., as well as involved in dental operations and business strategy for the company.
Dr. Spelios is actively involved in numerous professional organizations including the ADA, AGD, FDA, East Coast District Dental Society, and National Association of Dental Plans. He serves on the Board of the Council for Managed Care and is a member of the Dental Advisory Board for American Dental Plan. He received a B.A. degree from the University of South Florida, a M.S. from Florida International University, and a DMD from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Dr. Spelios is currently licensed to practice dentistry in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Dr. Spelios’ current focus is on the continued strategic growth strategy of DHA, Inc. while promoting his philosophy of developing premier service-oriented dental practices.
Mr. Spelios is co-founder and had served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Dental Health Associates, Inc. since its inception in January 2002. In February 2010 Mr. Spelios assumed the role of President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Spelios has brought to DHA, Inc. more than 30 years of management experience, and a diverse portfolio of expertise in strategy, business process, and multi unit management, in both the Health Insurance and Dental Practice Management sectors.
Prior to his affiliation with DHA, Inc. Mr. Spelios spent over 25 years in the Health Insurance industry with Aetna Health Plans, Inc. serving in several operations management capacities, and as an officer of the corporation. In 1997, Mr. Spelios joined CompBenefits Corporation in Atlanta as Vice President of their newly formed practice management subsidiary, Dental Health Management, Inc. He was responsible for the overall management of the de novo development strategy for the company, and was successful in building, staffing and opening 27 new dental practices in six states. In March, 1999, Mr. Spelios assumed full operational control of the company’s 58 dental facilities, overseeing more than 600 clinical and non-clinical personnel.
Since January 2002, Mr. Spelios has focused on same store growth and improving profitability for DHA’s affiliated office locations in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. He continues to pursue the acquisition of additional practices as well as the formation of partnerships to compliment the company’s growing network of dental facilities. As CEO, Mr. Spelios will continue to concentrate on strategic management and long term expansion planning for DHA. His philosophy of teamwork, excellent customer service and the ability to provide the best in quality dental care by highly qualified and motivated personnel has resulted in Dental Health Associates, Inc.’s emerging reputation as one of the premier dental practice organizations in the South. A native of Massachusetts, Mr. Spelios holds a B.A. degree from American International College in Biology and Psychology, as well as several HIAA designations. He is an active member of the Group Dental Practice Management Association.
Dr. Charles Ross has held the position of Clinical Director for Dental Health Associates, Inc. since 2002. His primary responsibilities include oversight of all formal clinical policies and procedures, assuring compliance with all ADA regulated clinical requirements and standards of care, and monitoring clinical continuity in all of DHA’s affiliated practices.
Dr. Ross is a native of Miami, Florida where he currently resides and practices. He has been an Associate in the Miami practice for over 10 years, and previously in his own private practice. Dr. Ross has participated in many Continuing Educational projects throughout the United States, and currently holds positions as Clinical Instructor, University of Miami School of Medicine, and Clinical Professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry.
Dr. Ross has received numerous honors and awards including Master, Academy of General Dentistry, Fellow, American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists to name a few. He holds memberships in the ADA, AGD, FDA, East Coast District Dental Society, Greater Miami and South Dade Dental Societies and many more. He is past president of the Greater Miami Dental Society, Florida AGD, Southeast Florida AGD, Dade County dental research Clinic and Dade County Dental society. He is also an Alternate delegate for the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Ross has also traveled and lectured extensively, on topics including Conventional Endodontics, Multi surface restorations, and Dental Ethics and Jurisprudence.
In 1990, Dr. Ross was appointed to the Florida Board of Dentistry, and now holds the record as the longest serving dental board member in the history of the Florida Board of Dentistry. He has held the position of President of the Board for three terms, the last of which ended in December, 2001.
Dr. Ross received a BS degree in Biology from Florida A&M University, his DDS from Howard University and his Certificate in Comprehensive General Dentistry from the University of Florida.
Mr. Don DeHaven brings significant experience with dental practice management and corporate relations to Dental Health Associates. He was a Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Atlanta and subsequently served as Accounting Manager with another large dental group based in Atlanta.
As COO, Mr. DeHaven manages the company's budgeting and planning process. Each Professional Corporation segment is managed for revenue growth, operating expenses, and capital expenditures. Mr. DeHaven has developed beneficial working relationships with the key vendors for DHA to control cost and generate timely reporting and forecasting models. The company measures financial performance against each of these metrics on a monthly basis, and has the capability through its financial systems to monitor weekly trends to detect variances from plan, and institute immediate corrective action.
As CFO, Mr. DeHaven has played an integral part in the financial and operation analysis of DHA. Mr. DeHaven's background and training as a CPA as well as his prior dental management experience is instrumental to the success of the company’s budgeting and forecasting ability. His focus on Information Technology has lead to the development of a leading technological solution to becoming HIPAA compliant in addition to realizing cost savings for DHA.
Mr. DeHaven received his BBA in Finance from Georgia State University as well as an MS in Accounting from Kennesaw State University. He holds a CPA designation through the State of Georgia.
As the Director of Human Resources, Ms. Spelios is responsible for the strategic management of DHA’s benefit programs including health insurance administration, voluntary benefits, 401(k) program, payroll administration, hiring and employee relations for all of DHA’s workforce. She is also responsible for maintaining the integrity of the company’s published Personnel Policies and Programs Manual and the updating and enforcement of its provisions.
Prior to joining DHA at its inception, Ms. Spelios began her career in retail management where she applied learned principles of Business Management and excellent customer service within her scope of responsibility. She quickly transitioned to the Staffing Industry where she worked for several national specialized recruiting firms. Her clients represented a variety of industries where she continued to develop her recruiting abilities at all levels from temporary and administrative staffing to direct placement within the Executive level.
Ms. Spelios holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors from Babson College, Wellesley, Massachusetts with a double major in Management and Communications. She earned a PHR designation and is considered a Certified Professional in Human Resources.
She continues to apply her expertise in customer service, training, staffing and recruiting and serves as an integral part to the overall success of the Management team for DHA.
